Welcome to the Regional Museum in Kristianstad and the Center of Contemporary Art!
The Regional museums permanent exhibitions on the main square of central Kristianstad focus on individual histories, charting how life has changed in Kristianstad and the rest of the province of Skåne over the years, while our temporary exhibitions cover a broad spectrum of topical subjects.
Center for Contemporary Art
The Center for Contemporary Art is in a process of constant renewal, showing installations, paintings, graphic arts and photos. The exhibitions also look beyond the borders of Sweden to give the visitors glimpses of contemporary art from all over the world, proving a natural forum for meetings and discussions.
Café and Museum Shop
In the Café Miró you can enjoy an espresso and a selection of homebaked delicacies, or sit down to a light lunch. During the summer months café guests can relax in the shade of the walnut trees in museum courtyard. A memento of your visit can be found in our museum shop, where you can find handicrafts, jewelry, glasswear, books about Skåne and unconventional gifts. The selection offered is continually updated to reflect our current exhibitions.
Film Museum, Railway Museum and Åhus Museum
In our three branch museums you can discover more about the history of Swedish films, Swedish railways and medieval times in this part of the world. Delve deep into the history of Swedish films at the nearby Film Museum (on Östra Storgatan). The Railway Museum (Järnvägsmuseet), also in Kristianstad, is situated on Västra Storgatan (currently closed due to construction work). And in Åhus Museum, located on the main square in the old town of Åhus, you can find out more about the men and the women of the Middle Ages and the part they played in the history of the town.
Open-air Museums
The intimate relationship between humankind and nature becomes apparent at the three open-air museums - at Haväng on the eastern coast, on the island of Hallands Väderö, and on Kjugekull Hill. Here you can acquaint yourself more closely with the local flora and fauna, and learn about the many influenses that have shaped the landscape over the course of the millenia.
